Ghirahim is a Sword Spirit that served Demise. The self-proclaimed "Demon Lord" was responsible for unleashing demon hordes on the Surface in order to find the goddess and resurrect Demise.

Cloud Barrier Penetrated
Around the same time as The Goddess Hylia's Reincarnation, Demise sent his follower Ghirahim to the Surface, where Ghirahim gave himself the title of lord. Through secret plotting and scheming, he unleashed demon hordes on the land in an attempt to find the goddess and resurrect the Demon King Demise. Ghirahim finally found Zelda in the sky. He produced a tornado that penetrated the clouds and caused her to fall to the Surface.[1]
Ghirahim Resurrects Demise in the Past
Following the destruction of Demise via the Triforce, the enraged Ghirahim abducted Zelda and transported her through the Gate of Time. Once in the past, he carried out the ritual to bring the Demon King Demise back to life. Link pursued them, fighting and overcoming Ghirahim, but arrived too late as Demise had already been revived.[2]
