Sword Spirits have been known to reside inside of swords. There are only a few examples of Sword Spirits and the few seem to follow a few basic principles. Fi and Ghirahim both seem to follow the wishes of the one who wields their sword. In the case of Fi, shed guided Link to the sword inside of the Goddess Statue. For Ghirahim, he was ordered by Demise to go to the surface in order to find the reincarnated goddess and to resurrect him.
