The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
ゼルダの伝説 スカイウォードソード
November 18, 2011

Synopsis

The game traces the origins of the Master Sword as Link travels between the sky city of Skyloft and the surface below to rescue Zelda from the clutches of an ancient evil. This adventure lays the foundation for the legends of Hyrule.

Gameplay

Skyward Sword introduces motion-based controls for swordplay and items. Players navigate floating islands and dungeons, and combat relies on directional slashing. The game emphasizes exploration, puzzle-solving, and intense combat mechanics.

Events

The Development of Skyloft

The plot of land Hylia sent into the sky became known as the Isle of the Goddess. The islands in the sky where the surviving humans dwell became known as Skyloft. There the humans lived With guardian birds, known as Loftwings, given to them by Hylia. Only a few individuals on the Surface knew of the existence of the goddess and Skyloft. After a few thousand years, their story was forgotten and became legend.

During the ancient battle, the humans had no choice but to flee the Surface to survive. On Skyloft, they developed a militia and slowly built up their strength. Gaepora, the keeper of the legends that had been passed down through his family, built the Knight Academy. Gaepora brought kendo training and Loftwing riding together and established the order of the knights.[1]

The Goddess Hylia's Reincarnation

As the seal of Demise, the Demon King, began to weaken, a human girl was born. That girl was named Zelda, and she was the goddess Hylia

reincarnated.[2]

Cloud Barrier Penetrated

Around the same time as The Goddess Hylia's Reincarnation, Demise sent his follower Ghirahim to the Surface, where Ghirahim gave himself the title of lord. Through secret plotting and scheming, he unleashed demon hordes on the land in an attempt to find the goddess and resurrect the Demon King Demise. Ghirahim finally found Zelda in the sky. He produced a tornado that penetrated the clouds and caused her to fall to the Surface.[2]

Zelda Regains Memories As Hylia

After her fall from the heavens, Zelda, now on the Surface, was rescued by an old woman. The old woman told Zelda that she was the reincarnation of Hylia and needed to cleanse herself in the temples of the sky and the earth. Understanding her destiny, and clothed in the garments of the goddess, Zelda set off for the Skyview and Earth springs. At the Earth Spring, Zelda was captured by Ghirahim's henchmen, the Bokoblins, but saved by Impa, of the Sheikah tribe, whose responsibility was to protect the reincarnated goddess.[3]

Zelda Returns To The Past

Zelda prayed at the two springs, purifying herself and regaining her memories as the goddess Hylia. In order to strengthen the seal that imprisoned the Demon King Demise, Zelda attempted to return to the ancient era from the Temple of Time in the desert. However, Ghirahim found her. Link showed up just in time. He fought with Ghirahim, protecting Zelda and Impa while they entered the Gate of Time. Upon entering, Impa destroyed the gate so that Ghirahim could not follow them to the ancient past.[4]

The Hero of the Sky Forges the Master Sword

The Goddess Sword was a divine weapon created by the goddess Hylia to aid the chosen hero in defeating the evil demonic forces led by Demise. Link, the hero chosen by destiny, retrieves the Goddess Sword from the Statue of the Goddess in Skyloft, which starts the long journey of forging the Goddess Sword into the Master Sword

In order for the Hero of the Sky to transform the Goddess Sword into the Master Sword, they must infuse it with three sacred flames, each guarded by a powerful spirit in different regions of the world. Once the sword has been imbued by the three Sacred Flames, the sword transforms into the Master Sword. After Zelda shares with the Hero of the Sky that she is the Goddess Reborn, she blesses the sword, unlocking its full potential as the True Master Sword.[4]

Zelda Enters Slumber

After traveling through the Gate of Time, Zelda and Impa reached the Sealed Grounds in the distant past. Link followed them using the second gate. Zelda explained to Link that to reinforce the seal confining Demise, she needed to sleep in the Sealed Temple. As a result, the Surface stabilized, and Skyloft thrived. Thousands of years passed.[4]

The Hero of the Sky Destroys Demise with the Triforce

After returning to his own time, Link discovered the legendary Triforce. By completing numerous trials, he proved himself worthy of its immense power and received the crest of the Triforce. His wish was granted, and the Statue of the Goddess was restored to its original place in the Sealed Grounds, where the Demon King Demise had been defeated.[5]

Ghirahim Resurrects Demise in the Past

Following the destruction of Demise via the Triforce, the enraged Ghirahim abducted Zelda and transported her through the Gate of Time. Once in the past, he carried out the ritual to bring the Demon King Demise back to life. Link pursued them, fighting and overcoming Ghirahim, but arrived too late as Demise had already been revived.[5]

The Hero of the Sky Defeats Demise

Following a fierce battle, Link managed to defeat Demise. Upon his defeat, the Demon King's malice was absorbed into the Master Sword and sealed away. Consequently, the demons on the Surface ceased to terrorize its inhabitants.[5]

A Return to the Surface

Zelda and the others returned to the present time. The atmosphere was peaceful and there was a feeling of a new beginning. Zelda resolved to live on the Surface and to protect the Triforce. However, the destruction of Demise was not the end of the battle. It was the beginning of a curse: a never-ending cycle of the reincarnation of the Demon King, whose hatred for those with the blood of the Goddess and the spirit of the Hero is everlasting.[5]
