Synopsis

Link is destined to stop Ganondorf, who seeks the power of the Triforce. Guided by Princess Zelda and the Ocarina of Time, Link must journey between his childhood and adulthood to thwart Ganondorf’s plans and protect Hyrule.

Gameplay

The first 3D Zelda game introduces targeting-based combat and time travel. Players explore a vast world filled with dungeons, characters, and puzzles, with innovative gameplay mechanics and an immersive storyline.

Events

The Hero of Time is Taken to the Forest

Towards the end of the Hyrulean Civil War, a lone woman sought refuge from the fires of war. Baby in arms, she escaped to the Forbidden Forest. She entrusted her baby to the Deku Tree, the spirit of the Kokiri Forest. The Deku Tree sensed that the child was intertwined with the fate of Hyrule and took the child in. Once the child's mother died, they were raised as a Kokiri. This child would later because the Hero of Time.[1]

The Hyrulean Civil War Ends

The conflict known as the Hyrulean Civil War is stated to have lasted for countless eras. Eventually, the fighting stopped and all of Hyrule was united. The exact beginning and ending of the war is unknown. The war ended at some point between the birth of the Hero of Time and the events of Ocarina of Time.[1]

Ganondorf Swears Fealty to the King of Hyrule

Ganondorf, leader of the Gerudo, the people of the desert, once again swore fealty to the king of Hyrule. However, Ganondorf's true aim was the Triforce, said to lie somewhere within the kingdom. Seeking the three Spiritual Stones necessary to open the gateway to the Sacred Realm, he carried out his plots in secret, in every corner of the land.[1]

Ganondorf's Rebellion

While Link collected the three Spiritual Stones, Ganondorflaunched an attack on Hyrule Castle. "Illis extreme measure was an attempt to steal the Ocarina of Time, a treasure of the Sacred Realm under the protection of the royal family. With the help of Impa, Princess Zelda escaped from the castle. Spotting Link, the princess tossed him the Ocarina of Time, praying that he would protect the Triforce. Princess Zelda flees[2]

The Door of Time is Opened

Ganondorf appears before Link Link restored the three Spiritual Stones to their places in the Temple of Time, and opened the Door of Time by playing the ocarina. "Ihe legendary Master Sword that lay behind the door served as the final key to the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf, apprised of Link 's movements, invaded the Sacred Realm to lay his hands on the Triforce. However, only the Triforce of Power remained, as the Triforces of Wisdom and Courage had scattered, seeking those with the ability to wield them. Link draws the Master Sword[2]

Downfall

The Birth of the Demon King

The Sacred Realm is a mirror that reflects the hearts of those who set foot in it. An evil heart will turn the realm into a living hell. A pure heart will transform it into paradise. Using the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf became the Demon King. The Sacred Realm was distorted into a nightmarish world where demons ran amuck. Hyrule Castle and Castle Town fell under Ganondorf's control, and the survivors fled to Kakariko Village.[3]

The Hero of Time Slumbers

Meanwhile, despite the fact that Link was worthy of drawing the Master Sword, his youthful body made him unfit to serve as the Hero of Time. Accordingly, the Master Sword sealed Link within the Sacred Realm. Within the Temple of Light, the cornerstone of the Sacred Realm, the ancient sage Rauru watched over Link in a small area called the Chamber of Sages. Link, guarded by Rauru, slept for seven long years. Princess Zelda had no choice but to wait for the seal on Link to be broken. In order to escape the Demon King's pursuit, she went into hiding by disguising herself as a boy of the Sheikah tribe and adopting the name Sheik.[3]

The Hero of Time Awakens the Sages

Wielding the Master Sword in his left hand and carrying the Hylian Shield in his right, Link returned as an adult. When Princess Zelda played her harp, she imparted her wisdom to Link. She instructed the hero to break the curse on each of the five temples and awaken the sages within.[3]

The Hero of Time is Defeated

Ganondorf the thief obtained the Triforce of Power and managed to get his hands on Princess Zelda. The Hero of Time, Link, challenged him in a battle that would determine Hyrule's very existence, and lost.[3]

Meanwhile, despite the fact that Link was worthy of drawing the Master Sword, his youthful body made him unfit to serve as the Hero of Time. Accordingly, the Master Sword sealed Link within the Sacred Realm. Upon his return, Link wasted no time in making for Hyrule Castle courtyard. There, he found Princess Zelda watching Ganondorf, just as she had been when they first met.[4]
