The Ancient Sages attempted to execute Ganondorf at the Arbiter's Grounds. However, because he was chosen by the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf survived and even managed to kill one of the sages. In a state of panic, the remaining sages used the Mirror of Twilight to banish Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm. The gods then instructed the sages to protect the mirror.[1]
