Great Plateau
始まりの台地 (Hajimari no daichi)

History

The Birthplace of Hyrule

The Great Plateau is the birthplace of Hyrule[1]. The plateau served as the original location for Hyrule Castle. However, with the conclusion of The Imprisoning War, a new castle was constructed in the north of Central Hyrule to serve as a physical barrier and seal over top of the Demon King[2].

The Imprisoning War

Much like the kingdom, the plateau saw the birth of the Demon King and the start of The Imprisoning War after Hyrule's first queen, Sonia, was murdered by Ganondorf, who took her Secret Stone and transformed into the Demon King[3].

Locations

In ancient times, the plateau hosted a version of the Temple of Time, a structure that took on the appearance of an unstable trapzoid, or rather, an inverted pyramid[citation needed]. The circular pedestal featured behind the temple is said to connect with a sacred energy that could transport things through time[4]. At some point after the temple was raised to the sky, a new temple was built in the footprint of the previous temple.

The Altar
Great Sky Island
This altar is considered the most holy place in the temple, and it is where we give offerings as part of our prayers for a bountiful, peaceful world. I have heard ancient legends that it could interact with a sacred power, allowing travel back and forth through time... Though how this was done is a mystery to me.

Certainly some of this damage was caused by the Guardians' invasion, but some of the debris looks to have been placed deliberately. I imagine the intention was to keep as many monsters as possible from reaching the Great Plateau, where Link recovered in the Shrine of Resurrection. But...how am I supposed to reach the Great Plateau now?” - Zelda, Birthplace of Hyrule, Zelda Notes, 2025

Without the castle in place, the site may be disturbed, allowing the Demon King's hatred and rage to be revived. The preservation of this castle is therefore tied to the prosperity of the kingdom.
