Founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule

Founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule

Preceding History

The Return to the Surface

Following the events of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Zelda—reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia—and her chosen knight, Link, vowed to remain on the surface to watch over the Triforce together. Their descendants continued this sacred duty, serving as devout priests and priestesses. Under their vigilant guardianship, an age of peace and prosperity dawned across the land of Hylia. Over time, these people—whose lineage traced back to the reborn goddess—came to be known as Hylians, and the land itself became known as Hyrule, the sacred land of the gods [1].

The Era of Chaos

This era of peace eventually came to an end as evildoers, driven by greed and rumors of a golden power, began to sow conflict across the land. Neighbor turned against neighbor, and many sought to claim the Triforce for themselves. As war and strife spread, the sage of light, Rauru, intervened by sealing the Triforce within the Sacred Realm. He locked its entrance behind the Temple of Time to protect it from misuse[1].

The Pilgrimage of Light

Although the widespread fighting subsided, monsters continued to threaten the people of the land. During this time, Rauru encountered Sonia, a wise and powerful Hylian priestess. Together, they traveled across Hyrule, using their sacred powers to seal away monsters and restore peace[2].

The Establishment of Hyrule Kingdom

At the request of the people, and with the intent to preserve the fragile peace and continue safeguarding the Triforce, Rauru and Sonia established the Kingdom of Hyrule. As its first king and queen, they also founded the Hyrulean royal family. This union of sacred Zonai and Hylian bloodlines would result in their royal descendants often possessing mystical powers[2][3].
